A fire incident on Saturday morning disrupted operations at an office of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) located at No. 15 Sokode Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, authorities have confirmed.
In a statement made available to journalists on Saturday, Sikiru Akinola, Technical Assistant (Print Media) to the Executive Chairman of the FIRS, said the fire broke out on the fourth floor of the multi-storey building but was swiftly brought under control through the prompt intervention of security personnel on duty, working in coordination with the Federal Capital Territory Fire Service and other emergency responders.
He further stated that the rapid response prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the building, thereby averting a potentially more serious situation. No fatalities or injuries were recorded in the incident.
While several offices on the affected floor sustained varying degrees of damage, FIRS management described the situation as contained and manageable.
An investigation has already commenced to determine the precise cause of the fire, with preliminary findings suggesting a possible electrical fault.
In its response to the incident, the tax authority disclosed that it is undertaking a comprehensive review of its internal safety and emergency protocols, with a view to strengthening preventive measures and reducing the risk of future occurrences.
Akinola reassured the public of the agency’s commitment to safety and operational continuity.
