The Ekiti State Government has approved a total of ₦7.72 billion for the reconstruction of critical road networks around the new flyover in Ado-Ekiti, alongside an additional ₦1.06 billion for electricity extension and transformer installation across underserved communities.
The approvals were part of decisions reached at the 12th meeting of the State Executive Council held via Zoom, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser on Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun.
Olatunbosun explained that the road project is designed to ease traffic congestion and stimulate commercial activity around the newly constructed flyover located in the heart of Ado-Ekiti, particularly the Old Garage axis and adjoining neighbourhoods.
Roads selected for reconstruction include Mathew Road to St. Paul’s Anglican Church; Ijigbo through Ojido to Odo Ado; Mugbagba Roads; Ojumose/Post Office via Ewi’s Palace Road; and Atikankan to Baptist Church Road.
He noted that the scope of work covers site clearing, earthworks, construction of concrete drains, pavement strengthening, and asphalt overlay.
The contract was awarded to Messrs Step Development Limited, the same firm handling the flyover project. The state government said the company was chosen based on its proven technical capacity and financial ability to deliver an integrated construction programme across the corridor.
On the separate approval of ₦1.06 billion for electricity expansion, the special adviser said the initiative aligns with Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s commitment to improve power supply, support local enterprise, and enhance public safety in line with relevant Sustainable Development Goals.
Communities to benefit from the electricity intervention include Ise Ekiti and Orun Ekiti (₦113 million); Fiwasaye, Abe Koko axis and Onala communities off Afao Road, Ado Ekiti (₦136.7 million); and Oke-Ureje and Itamo communities (₦4.5 million).
Others are Agelusi Crescent and Judges Quarters off NTA Road (₦69.5 million); Technology Incubation Centre and the Old Technical College in Ajilosun (₦62.8 million); and Iwaro, off Afao Road, Ayo Fasanmi Area in Ilokun, Ado-Ekiti, which will receive two transformers valued at ₦153 million.
