The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has registered more than seven million members in its ongoing nationwide electronic membership registration exercise, underscoring what party leaders describe as unprecedented grassroots enthusiasm.

The party also announced an extension of the exercise from its initial closing date of Saturday, January 31, 2026, to February 8, 2026, citing overwhelming demand from both prospective and existing members.

Addressing journalists after the 183rd meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja on Friday, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka said the decision was a direct response to widespread calls by party stakeholders for additional time.

“With respect to e-registration, there’s no complicated explanation. We just want more members to register,” Morka said. “The extension was in response to the clamour by enthusiastic members who are hoping to register, to afford them more time.”

He disclosed that the party had already crossed the seven-million mark and expressed confidence that the figure would rise sharply before the new deadline. “As of now, we have crossed the mark of seven million. By the grace of God, by the time we are closing on the 8th of February, we should have crossed the mark of 12.5 million,” he added.

Morka reiterated that the e-registration drive is a key component of the APC’s broader reform agenda aimed at digitising party records, ensuring data integrity, promoting financial inclusion, and aligning internal processes with national legal standards.

He noted that the initiative has positioned the APC as the first major political party in Nigeria to fully digitise its membership register, an effort he said sets a benchmark for internal democracy and organisational modernisation.

Also speaking, APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru described the exercise as “tremendously successful,” attributing the extension to formal requests from state chapters and the Progressive Governors’ Forum.

“The e-registration has been tremendously successful. We have received requests from many states that there are so many members that are still eager to register,” Basiru said. “Based on that request, particularly by the body of the Governors’ Forum at the meeting we held with them the day before yesterday, that was why the National Working Committee decided to extend.”

In a related development, Morka announced that Ward Congresses will now hold on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, while the APC National Convention has been rescheduled for March 27–28, 2026.

He clarified that Osun and Ekiti states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), are excluded from the scheduled congresses due to forthcoming elections. Rivers State, he added, is also excluded because the tenure of its current executive committees is yet to expire.
