The Osun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, has arrested three suspected goat thieves in Ila-Orangun, Ila Local Government Area.
The Commander of the corps, Adekunle Omoyele, disclosed in a statement on Friday that two of the suspects hailed from Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti State, while the third suspect is a resident of Ila-Orangun.
According to Omoyele, investigations revealed that the suspects were responsible for the theft of no fewer than 97 goats from the community, following repeated complaints by residents over the mysterious disappearance of their livestock.
“The arrest of the suspects followed a complaint lodged by residents of Ila-Orangun over the persistent disappearance of goats in the community,” the commander said. “After the report was made, Amotekun operatives launched diligent surveillance, which eventually led to their arrest.”
He explained that the suspects were apprehended in the act on Wednesday night, December 31, when they allegedly returned to Ila-Orangun to steal more goats.
Omoyele further revealed that the suspects confessed to stealing goats from the town on eight different occasions.
The stolen animals, he said, were sold to their leader based in Ado-Ekiti for the sum of ₦20,000 per goat.
Commending residents for their vigilance, the Amotekun commander urged people across Osun State to continue to support the corps by promptly reporting suspicious movements and security threats in their communities.
He reassured residents of the agency’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stressing that criminals would find no hiding place in Osun State.
