The Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) has accused supporters of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) of attacking three All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign activities in Ibadan, including a medical outreach organised by the wife of the party’s Oyo State governorship candidate.
SSACO alleged that Alhaja Tawakalitu Alli, wife of Senator Sharafadeen Alli, was attacked on Wednesday during the medical outreach at Ibikunle House, Ayeye, Ibadan.
The organisation also alleged that campaign activities involving APC candidates for the Oyo South Senatorial District and Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency were attacked at separate locations in the city.
According to the statement issued by SSACO’s Director of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, the campaign train of Oyo South senatorial candidate, Hon. Aderemi Oseni, was attacked at Agbaje Market, Orita-Merin, while that of Hon. Folake Olunloyo-Oshinowo was attacked at Idi-Arere.
SSACO described the incidents as “unwarranted” and “barbaric”, alleging that they represented an attempt to undermine the right of opposition candidates to campaign ahead of the 2027 elections.
The organisation called on Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and APM governorship candidate Bimbo Adekanmbi to restrain their supporters and ensure that political activities were conducted peacefully.
“The SSACO calls on Governor Seyi Makinde who is the APM promoter in Oyo State, and the party’s governorship candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, to rein in on their hoodlums,” Oladele said.
SSACO insisted that APC candidates and supporters would continue to exercise their rights to associate, assemble and campaign within the law, despite what it described as threats and intimidation.
It further alleged that the incidents were part of an effort to return Oyo State to an era of political violence, while accusing Makinde and Adekanmbi of responsibility for the attacks.
The campaign organisation also called on security agencies to investigate the incidents, identify those responsible and prosecute them.
“As the chief security officer of the state, Governor Makinde carries the responsibility to protect all residents irrespective of their political leanings,” the statement said.
SSACO said political actors should focus on presenting their programmes and policies to voters rather than resorting to violence, stressing that the people of Oyo State deserved issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections.
The organisation maintained that the alleged attacks would not stop APC candidates from taking their campaign messages to communities across the state.
