The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will on Tuesday hold a world press conference and national stakeholders’ meeting as preparations for the 2027 General Election enter the final 100-day countdown.
The engagement, scheduled for October 6, 2026, in Abuja, will allow the electoral commission to update Nigerians and key stakeholders on its preparations for the polls, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures to protect the integrity of the electoral process.
INEC announced the event in a statement issued on Sunday by the Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Adedayo Oketola.
According to the commission, its Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), will address the gathering alongside other key stakeholders involved in the electoral process.
INEC said the national stakeholders’ meeting was designed to strengthen transparency, public communication and collaboration among the various actors participating in the 2027 elections.
The commission is expected to bring together political party leaders, security agencies operating under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society organisations, observer groups and disability rights advocates.
Religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives are also expected to participate in the meeting.
The engagement comes as INEC implements its electoral timetable ahead of the 2027 elections, with the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for February 20, 2027.
Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are billed to take place on March 6, 2027.
Ahead of the polls, the commission has outlined several activities, including political party primaries, candidate nominations and other pre-election processes required under the legal framework governing the elections.
Amupitan, who assumed office as INEC chairman in October 2025, has repeatedly emphasised the commission’s responsibility to deliver free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive elections.
Tuesday’s engagement is therefore expected to offer political parties, security agencies, civil society groups, the media and other stakeholders an opportunity to assess the commission’s preparedness as the election calendar advances towards the February and March 2027 polls.
The event will take place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja from 10am.
INEC said attendance would be strictly by invitation, with accredited media representatives and guests required to present their invitation cards or accreditation badges at security checkpoints.
The commission added that proceedings would be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed through its official social media platforms.
