Lagos State Police Command has commenced disciplinary proceedings against Inspector Osumah Frank, whose inappropriate remarks in a viral video recorded while travelling in public transport sparked public attention.
The Command identified the officer in a statement issued on Friday, confirming that disciplinary action had been initiated against him in accordance with the established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.
Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebesi, said the inspector’s comments were made in his personal capacity and should not be interpreted as representing the official position of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force.
“The Command has commenced appropriate disciplinary action against the officer in line with established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force,” Adebesi said.
The Command stressed that police personnel are required to uphold professionalism, civility, discipline and respect for members of the public in the discharge of their duties and interactions with citizens.
Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Tijani Fatai, said wearing the police uniform comes with the responsibility of protecting the dignity and integrity of the Force.
According to him, the Command would not tolerate behaviour capable of damaging the reputation of the police or weakening public confidence in the institution.
“The Command will not condone any conduct capable of bringing the Force into disrepute or undermining public confidence in the Police,” Fatai said.
The police command reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability and policing anchored on humility and integrity.
The disciplinary action follows the circulation of a video showing the inspector making remarks while travelling in public transport.
The Command did not disclose the specific disciplinary measures being considered against the officer or when the proceedings would be concluded.
