The Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) has suspended its ongoing strike at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for two weeks following an intervention by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
NUAHP Chairman at UCH, Oladayo Olabampe, disclosed this in Ibadan on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
Olabampe said the suspension was communicated to the Chief Medical Director of UCH in a letter signed by the union’s executives and dated September 21.
According to him, the suspension took effect on Tuesday, September 22, after representatives of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare appealed over the dispute involving Adeyinka Ishola, Director of Pharmaceutical Services at the hospital.
He said the union’s national secretariat approved the suspension to allow further engagement with the ministry and other relevant authorities.
“Due to the intervention by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the national secretariat of this union has approved that the ongoing strike action be suspended for two weeks with effect from Tuesday, September 22, 2026,” Olabampe said.
He added that union members had been directed to return to their duties from the same date.
The NUAHP chairman explained that the two-week suspension was intended to provide an opportunity for further discussions towards resolving the dispute.
The union had embarked on the industrial action over its demand for the immediate and unconditional implementation of a decision reached by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in the case involving Ishola.
With the suspension, allied health professionals represented by NUAHP at UCH, Ibadan, are expected to resume services while discussions on the unresolved matter continue.
