Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has distanced herself from the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council after her name appeared among entertainers listed to support the party’s 2027 election campaign.
Abraham said she is not a member of any campaign council and asked the public to disregard her reported inclusion, making clear that she intends to stay out of politics.
“I’m not a member of any campaign council. I have said it recently. I am staying out of politics. Please disregard the supposed inclusion of my name in any campaign committee,” she said in an Instagram Story on Thursday.
Her statement came shortly after the Lagos APC unveiled its campaign council structure ahead of its scheduled inauguration on Friday, September 18, 2026.
In the published structure, Abraham was listed as one of 33 members of the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate alongside several prominent figures from Nollywood and the Nigerian music industry.
Veteran actor Jide Kosoko was named Co-Director of the directorate, while actress Eniola Badmus was listed as Deputy Director.
Toke Benson-Awoyinka was named Director, with Akeem Alimi, popularly known as Ajala Jalingo, serving as Secretary and Dare Olateju as Assistant Secretary.
Other entertainers listed include Bimbo Akintola, Adebayo Salami, Yinka Quadri, Saheed Balogun, Bukky Wright, Fathia Balogun, Biola Adebayo, Foluke Daramola, Remi Oshodi and Tayo Sobola.
Fuji and other music personalities on the list include Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Abass Akande Obesere, Adewale Ayuba, Sule Alao Malaika, Akorede Babatunde Okunola, popularly known as Osupa, and Temitope Adekunle, known as Small Doctor.
Despite Abraham’s public denial, her name remained in the campaign council document circulated by the party’s media team.
The development is notable because of the actress’s previous involvement in Nigeria’s political discourse.
During the 2023 presidential election, Abraham publicly expressed support for President Bola Tinubu, a position that attracted significant criticism on social media.
In March 2023, she discussed the backlash during a Twitter Space, alleging that some supporters of then-presidential candidate Peter Obi had petitioned Netflix over her films and targeted brands associated with her.
She also disclosed receiving abusive messages directed at her, her husband, Kolawole Ajeyemi, and their son.
The controversy surrounding her political involvement continued after the election.
In 2024, Abraham said she would no longer publicly disclose her political affiliation following the backlash she had experienced over her 2023 political position.
Her latest statement therefore represents a fresh clarification of her position as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The Lagos APC campaign council is expected to be formally inaugurated at the party’s secretariat on ACME Road, Ikeja, today.
