The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has extended the service year of 27 corps members in Osun State over various acts of indiscipline.
The NYSC Coordinator in the state, Ekeng Kubiangha, disclosed this on Thursday during the low-key Passing-Out Parade (POP) for the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members in Osogbo, the state capital.
Kubiangha also revealed that 31 corps members absconded from service during the service year.
According to him, 1,969 corps members participated in the passing-out ceremony across the 30 Local Government Areas and the Area Office in the state.
The coordinator urged the outgoing corps members to regard the completion of their national service as the beginning of another phase of responsibility and opportunity.
He advised them to put the knowledge, skills and experiences acquired during their service year to productive use as they transition into their next phase of life.
Kubiangha particularly encouraged the corps members to build on the entrepreneurial skills acquired through the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, saying such skills could help them navigate the realities of the Nigerian economy.
He also charged them to remain disciplined, responsible and committed to contributing meaningfully to society.
“I want to stress that the completion of the service year should mark the beginning of greater opportunities, responsibilities and service to humanity.
“The need for the corps members to sustain the positive values acquired during their service year and apply the experiences and skills gained to their personal and professional development cannot be overemphasised,” he said.
Following the passing-out ceremony, the NYSC coordinator embarked on a monitoring exercise in Boripe and Ifelodun Local Government Areas, where he interacted with serving corps members in the zone.
During the exercise, Kubiangha urged the serving corps members to remain focused and take advantage of the opportunities provided by the national service scheme.
He also advised them to maintain a strong spiritual life, reminding them of the transient nature of human existence and the need to live purposeful and impactful lives.
The NYSC coordinator’s remarks came as the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members formally concluded their national service in Osun State.
