The Nigeria Police Force has deployed Commissioner of Police Samuel Etaifo to Osun State to coordinate security operations ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

The deployment, announced on Friday, forms part of the Force’s broader election security strategy designed to ensure a peaceful, secure and credible electoral process across the state.

Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, disclosed the development in a statement, explaining that Etaifo would lead and coordinate all election-related security operations in collaboration with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders.

According to the statement, the newly deployed commissioner will oversee measures aimed at protecting voters, election officials and sensitive electoral materials before, during and after the poll.

The police also clarified that the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Osun State Command, Ibrahim Gotan, will remain at the helm of the state command, where he will continue to supervise routine policing activities while providing the required administrative and operational support for the election security mission.

The Force urged all officers assigned to election duties to uphold the highest standards of professionalism throughout the exercise.

It also directed deployed personnel to remain politically neutral and strictly adhere to all legal provisions, including the Code of Conduct for Security Personnel on Electoral Duty, to promote public confidence in the electoral process.

The deployment is part of ongoing preparations by security agencies to ensure a safe environment for voters and other stakeholders participating in the Osun governorship election.
