The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected ritualists after recovering an item believed to be a human skull during an intelligence-driven operation in Ijio, Kajola area of the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed that the arrests followed credible intelligence indicating that one of the suspects was unlawfully in possession of a suspected human skull.
He said the operation was carried out on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, with operatives of the Command working in collaboration with the Amotekun Corps.
According to the police, the primary suspect, identified as Shittu Isah, was apprehended in the Kajola area of Ijio.
During the operation, officers recovered the suspected human skull from his possession.
According to the police, Isah confessed to exhuming the skull from a Muslim cemetery located in Ijio.
The suspect was also said to have identified Tunde Ajibade as his accomplice in the act, prompting investigators to arrest him.
Ajibade is currently assisting the police with ongoing investigations.
The recovered exhibit has been secured and preserved for forensic examination to determine whether it is indeed a human skull and to assist investigators in establishing further facts surrounding the case.
Police authorities said detectives are working to uncover the motive behind the alleged offence and determine whether other individuals were involved in the suspected criminal activity.
The Oyo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, assuring residents that anyone found culpable would face prosecution in accordance with the law.
The Command also appealed to members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information that will aid security agencies in preventing and combating crime throughout Oyo State.
