The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects, including a former security guard, in connection with the killing of former Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.
The state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, announced the arrests during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Thursday.
According to Ojajuni, the suspects were apprehended following extensive intelligence gathering, forensic examinations and technical tracking operations launched after the double murder.
Oyesiku and Adetayo were found dead at the retired broadcaster’s residence in the Owode-Egba area of Ogun State on June 21.
A Lexus RX 330 belonging to the slain veteran broadcaster was also reported missing from the premises.
The police commissioner said officers at the Owode-Egba Police Station received a report around 4 p.m. on June 21 about suspicious activities at the residence.
Upon arrival, investigators discovered that the front door had been partially damaged, while the security post within the compound was locked.
A search of the property led to the discovery of Adetayo’s lifeless body inside the security house. Oyesiku was later found in the living room of the main building in a pool of blood.
Ojajuni said detectives processed the crime scene and immediately suspected a robbery-homicide case after discovering that the deceased’s vehicle had disappeared from the compound.
The missing Lexus was recovered the following day through intelligence-led investigations and technical tracking efforts.
Although the vehicle’s ignition key had been removed and its registration plates detached, officers recovered one of the plates hidden beneath a seat, enabling them to confirm the vehicle’s ownership.
A handwritten note allegedly left behind by the attackers became a breakthrough in the investigation.
The note, according to the CP, was subjected to forensic analysis, which generated leads that helped detectives identify and trace the suspects.
The principal suspect, identified as Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22, was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer.
Subsequent operations led to the arrest of Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36.
According to the police commissioner, Philip confessed to participating in the killings and admitted recruiting the two other suspects to assist in carrying out the attack.
Investigators said Philip claimed he orchestrated the crime because of grievances he harboured from his previous employment as a security guard for the deceased.
He allegedly told detectives that the attack was intended to “teach her a lesson”.
Ojajuni explained that the suspects carried out the operation on June 20 by first overpowering Adetayo and using him to gain access to the residence.
Once inside, they allegedly attacked and killed Oyesiku before murdering the security guard.
After the killings, the suspects reportedly fled with the victim’s Lexus RX 330, which was later recovered in the Onikolobo area of Ogun State.
The police also recovered several items believed to be connected to the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank and a black pen, following searches conducted at locations linked to the suspects.
While noting that the suspects had made useful statements and that significant evidence had been obtained, Ojajuni stressed that investigations remained ongoing.
He reaffirmed that all suspects were entitled to due process and said detectives were working to consolidate evidence to ensure diligent prosecution.
The commissioner further assured residents that the command remained committed to securing justice for the victims and bringing everyone connected to the killings to account.
