The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the promotion of 17,952 junior police officers across different ranks in the Nigeria Police Force as part of efforts to strengthen personnel welfare, improve morale, and reward diligence and professionalism within the Force.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid.

According to the statement, the promotion exercise affected officers serving in commands and formations across the country.

A breakdown of the promotions showed that 165 Sergeants were elevated to the rank of Inspector, 73 Corporals were promoted to Sergeant, while 17,714 Constables advanced to the rank of Corporal.

The police authorities described the exercise as part of the Force’s broader commitment to institutional development and career progression for deserving personnel.

The statement quoted the IGP as stressing that timely promotion remains a vital component of the Force’s human resource management strategy and an important tool for motivating officers in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.

Disu noted that the promotion of deserving officers reflects the commitment of the current police leadership to merit, professionalism, and sustained institutional growth.

He congratulated the newly promoted personnel and urged them to regard their elevation as a call to higher responsibility and greater dedication to duty.

The IGP also charged the officers to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force by maintaining discipline, professionalism, integrity, and respect for human rights in the course of their duties.

The statement added that the Force remains committed to rewarding hard work, promoting excellence, and strengthening its operational and institutional capacity in line with global best practices in policing.
