President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Ishaq Oloyede, whose tenure will end on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the presidency, Aina is a professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University with extensive expertise in digital infrastructure, national examination systems, and institutional reforms.
The statement described him as a distinguished academic and systems expert with vast experience in public-sector reforms and technology-driven educational systems.
It noted that Aina earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from University of Kent, as well as an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
The presidency further stated that Aina has spent more than 15 years advising federal and state governments on digital transition, system design, and institutional reforms.
Describing him as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in Computer Engineering, the statement added that he would also become the youngest registrar in the history of JAMB.
Aina has reportedly served as a consultant to examination bodies, including National Examinations Council and National Business and Technical Examinations Board, particularly on ICT systems and examination integrity frameworks.
He is also affiliated with several professional bodies, including Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and Institution of Engineering and Technology.
President Tinubu expressed confidence in Aina’s ability to sustain and surpass the achievements recorded during Oloyede’s tenure at JAMB.
The statement said the president expects the incoming registrar to deploy his experience, knowledge, and practical insight to further strengthen the operations and performance of the examination body.
