Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested two suspects over the alleged vandalisation and theft of electrical installations at the General Hospital, Igbotako, in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday in Akure.
According to the police spokesman, the incident was reported on May 6, 2026, after a concerned resident alerted authorities that a suspect identified as Promise Godspower had unlawfully entered the hospital premises and allegedly vandalised electrical installations before carting away cables.
Jimoh stated that police operatives acted on credible intelligence and investigative leads to track down and arrest the prime suspect.
He said the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation.
The police spokesperson further revealed that a security personnel attached to the hospital, identified as Pogbara Sigalo, was also arrested for questioning over alleged negligence of duty and possible involvement in the incident.
According to the Command, the stolen electrical cables were recovered from the suspect, while investigations into the matter are ongoing.
Reacting to the incident, the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, condemned the alleged vandalism and the reported security breach at the health facility.
Lawal described negligence of duty as a serious threat to public safety and the protection of government property.
The police commissioner also warned individuals against vandalism, theft, and destruction of public infrastructure, stressing that anyone found culpable after investigation would face prosecution.
