Members of the Ekiti State Executive Council (EXCO) have donated N100 million to support the re-election bid of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, describing the gesture as a demonstration of loyalty and commitment to his administration.
The donation was formally presented on Wednesday during a brief meeting at the State Executive Council Chamber in Ado Ekiti.
Speaking on behalf of the council, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, alongside the Special Adviser on Political Matters, Jide Awe, said the contribution reflected the collective resolve of cabinet members to secure the governor’s second term in office.
They commended Oyebanji’s leadership, noting that his administration had made a significant impact on the state.
According to them, the financial support was a symbolic expression of their appreciation and a reinforcement of their commitment to his continued leadership.
“Your Excellency, you are a man of history, and we consider it a privilege to serve in your administration. This is our modest way of demonstrating our support for your re-election on June 20,” the representatives stated, adding that EXCO members would intensify efforts to ensure his victory at the polls.
The council members further expressed optimism that Oyebanji would make history by becoming the first governor in the state to secure back-to-back electoral victories.
In his response, Governor Oyebanji expressed gratitude to the council members, describing the donation as unprecedented and a strong indication of unity within his administration.
“I sincerely appreciate this generous gesture. While such donations are not uncommon, I believe this is the largest contribution ever made by an EXCO to a governor seeking re-election,” he said.
The governor added that the show of support would further motivate him to continue delivering good governance to the people of Ekiti State.
Also speaking, the Chief of Staff to the Governor and Secretary to the Campaign Council, Niyi Adebayo, confirmed that the funds had been successfully deposited into the Campaign Council’s account.
Meanwhile, the Coordinator of the EXCO Welfare Committee, Prof. Akeem Azeez, commended council members for their financial contributions, which collectively made the donation possible.
The development comes ahead of the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State, where Oyebanji is seeking a second term in office amid growing political activities across the state.
