The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over nearly N4 billion recovered from fraudulent transactions to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd).
At a brief ceremony held at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, the anti-graft agency transferred a total sum of N3,936,145,822 to the state-owned oil company.
The presentation was carried out on behalf of the EFCC Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, by the Secretary to the Commission, Mohammed Hammajoda, who reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to combating economic and financial crimes across the country.
Hammajoda said the recovered funds were the outcome of painstaking investigations and professional efforts by EFCC operatives who uncovered fraudulent activities involving certain actors connected to NNPC Ltd.
According to him, the commission remains resolute in safeguarding public resources and ensuring accountability in Nigeria’s financial and corporate systems.
“On behalf of the Executive Chairman, we will continue to put ourselves on the line to serve over 220 million Nigerians,” Hammajoda said.
He added that several officers of the commission had made significant sacrifices in the course of carrying out their duties and pledged that the EFCC would remain steadfast in its mission.
“We will serve and continue to serve this country with courage and integrity,” he stated while presenting the recovered sum to the NNPC delegation.
Receiving the funds on behalf of NNPC Ltd, the Executive Vice President for Downstream operations, Mumuni Dagazau, expressed appreciation to the EFCC for its role in facilitating the recovery.
Dagazau described the development as a demonstration of institutional collaboration in strengthening transparency and accountability within Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
He acknowledged that the national oil company had faced several operational and systemic challenges over the years but emphasised that efforts were ongoing to reform internal processes and improve corporate governance.
Dagazau noted that NNPC management was pleased that the matter was referred to the EFCC for investigation and recovery.
“When the opportunity came for this recovery through your people that handled the case, it was something I was proud of,” he said.
He added that the partnership between the EFCC and NNPCL represented a significant step toward improving accountability and pledged that the company would continue to rely on the anti-corruption agency for support in addressing financial irregularities.
The recovered funds are expected to be reintegrated into the operations of NNPC Ltd as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen financial transparency within Nigeria’s petroleum industry.
