The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has distanced itself from the alleged admission of candidates into the Law programme of Lead City University, declaring that such admissions are invalid and not recognised by the Board.

JAMB said the admissions did not pass through its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), the only authorised platform for processing admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Board’s Public Communications Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB explained that the development followed several allegations of negligence regarding the purported admission of candidates into the university’s Faculty of Law despite an existing suspension on the programme.

Benjamin clarified that the admissions in question were never processed through the official JAMB portal and therefore cannot be regarded as legitimate.

The Board unequivocally states that the said admissions were not conducted through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), the only platform approved for the processing of admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Consequently, such admissions are void as they are unknown to the Board,” he said.

He further noted that Lead City University is currently not authorised to admit students into its Law programme because the course remains under a five-year suspension.

According to him, any admission granted into the programme during the suspension period or outside the CAPS platform is invalid and will not be recognised by the Board.

Benjamin warned candidates to adhere strictly to JAMB’s long-standing directive against accepting admission offers that do not originate from CAPS.

This sad development once again underscores the importance of heeding the Board’s repeated and unequivocal advice to candidates not to accept any offer of admission outside CAPS,” he stated.

He emphasised that candidates who accept such irregular offers cannot later claim ignorance, stressing that admissions not processed through the official system lack legitimacy.

Candidates admitted through such irregular means have no legitimate claim as they are considered complicit,” he added.

JAMB also advised candidates who may have received such admission offers to disregard them and instead apply for the next Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to secure legitimate admission through the approved process.

Candidates who have been offered admission outside CAPS are therefore advised to disregard such offers and commence the process of obtaining the next UTME application in order to pursue legitimate admission through the appropriate channels,” Benjamin said.

The Board further disclosed that it is aware of attempts by some institutions to bypass admission regulations by transferring affected candidates to other universities through inter-university transfer arrangements.

However, Benjamin warned that such attempts would also fail because JAMB would not approve any transfer where the candidate’s initial admission was not processed through CAPS.

For a transfer to be valid, the candidate must have been validly admitted in the first instance,” he explained.

JAMB reiterated its commitment to enforcing the rules governing admissions into tertiary institutions across the country and urged candidates to strictly follow the approved procedures in order to avoid losing their admission opportunities.
