The Oyo State Government has sealed Ar-Rahmon Khabul Herbal Nigeria Limited, located at 20 Cele, Off Tioya Oritamerin Road, Ibadan, over alleged environmental infractions and public health concerns.
The enforcement action was carried out by the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) in collaboration with the Oyo State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, following multiple petitions from residents in the affected area.
Chairperson of OYRLEA, Hon. Justice Aderonke Aderemi (rtd), disclosed on Friday that the operation became necessary after complaints of persistent offensive odour and reported health complications allegedly linked to the company’s activities.
According to her, the government intervened to protect public health, enforce environmental standards, and ensure compliance with regulatory provisions across the state.
Findings from a joint inspection revealed that the herbal firm operates a production facility within a densely populated residential neighbourhood, in violation of environmental and public health regulations.
Officials noted that tobacco leaf constitutes a major component of the firm’s production process, generating a strong and offensive odour considered hazardous to nearby residents.
Investigators also reported the emission of harmful gaseous substances into the atmosphere and the discharge of wastewater into a nearby community water body.
Inspectors further observed the installation of a short chimney facing residential buildings and the accumulation of solid waste within the premises, despite the company’s claim of engaging a waste management contractor.
Prior to sealing the facility, the Authority had issued an abatement notice directing the company to cease operations and relocate within 21 days, in accordance with the Oyo State Environmental, Sanitation and Waste Control Regulations.
OYRLEA and its partner agencies maintained that air pollution, improper waste disposal, and hazardous emissions constitute clear breaches of environmental laws.
Justice Aderemi reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to sustained monitoring and enforcement to guarantee a safe and healthy environment for residents across Oyo State.
