The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has commended members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for what he described as peaceful and orderly ward congresses conducted across the state’s 20 local government areas.

The congresses, held on Wednesday, followed the endorsement of the party’s convention timetable by its National Working Committee and APC governors, setting in motion activities leading to the party’s national convention slated for next month.

Speaking after participating in the exercise at Ward 3, Iperu, in Ikenne Local Government Area, Abiodun praised the calm atmosphere that characterised the process statewide.

He described the development as a reflection of unity, discipline and political maturity within the ruling party.

The governor also commended the outgoing ward executives for their leadership and contributions to strengthening the party’s grassroots structures, noting that their managerial competence had helped consolidate the APC’s presence at the local level.

“Like we all know, not all members can emerge as party executives, so I hereby appeal for your understanding and cooperation. I also assure party faithful that their welfare will continue to receive attention,” Abiodun said.

He further declared that the APC remains the dominant political force, asserting that it is not only Nigeria’s leading party but also a major political platform on the African continent.

Abiodun appreciated party members for their support during the recent House of Representatives by-election and the e-registration exercise, urging them to remain steadfast in supporting the party and his administration to sustain the delivery of democratic dividends in the state.

At the conclusion of the congress at the ward secretariat in Iregun area of Iperu, Sanni Razaq was elected Ward Chairman, Yinka Balogun emerged as Secretary, while Morouf Okugboye was elected Vice Chairman.

In Ward 3, Sango-Ota, the Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, similarly described the congress as peaceful and foundational to the emergence of credible grassroots leaders.

She commended party faithful for their discipline and orderly conduct, noting that the smooth process across the state underscored the APC’s strong grassroots structure in Ogun.

According to her, no political party can thrive without a robust base at the ward level, adding that the successful congresses have further positioned the APC for future electoral victories in the state.

The peaceful conduct of the ward congresses is expected to bolster the party’s internal cohesion as it prepares for its forthcoming national convention and subsequent electoral engagements.
