Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman of THISDAY/ARISE Media Group, has announced the official launch of LekeeLekee, a new social media platform developed as part of the organisation’s expanding digital strategy.

The platform is now available on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, and via the web. It also operates as a Progressive Web App (PWA), enabling users to access its features seamlessly across devices, regardless of connectivity strength.

According to a statement issued by the group, LekeeLekee is designed as a fast, next-generation social media platform and super app tailored to address what it described as “the realities of underserved networks and communities.”

Developed by ARISE Broadcast and THISDAY Media Group, the platform is engineered to function effectively in low-bandwidth environments, a critical feature for users in regions with limited internet infrastructure.

The application offers low-data, high-speed content feeds, alongside video sharing capabilities, instant messaging with voice notes, community group creation, and integrated content moderation tools. The developers say these features aim to enhance user engagement while ensuring a safer digital space.

Obaigbena described LekeeLekee as a strategic response to what he termed the disconnect between global technology platforms and local realities.

“For too long, global platforms have been built far from our realities. LekeeLekee is our answer – a platform that is fast, fair, and open, one that amplifies voices rather than extracting them,” he said.

He further stressed that the platform goes beyond conventional social networking by positioning itself as a digital ecosystem designed to empower users, promote authentic engagement, and foster inclusive online communities.

Industry analysts view the launch as a significant step for THISDAY/ARISE Media Group, marking its formal entry into the competitive social media space.

With an established presence in broadcasting and print media, the conglomerate is leveraging its brand strength to introduce a homegrown digital alternative.

Observers note that LekeeLekee’s emphasis on low-data consumption and accessibility could give it a strategic advantage in African markets where data costs remain high and network quality varies significantly.

Obaigbena urged users to embrace the platform, framing it as an opportunity to shape a more equitable digital future.

“Join us in the freedom to own our new digital future,” the statement concluded.

The unveiling of LekeeLekee underscores the group’s broader innovation drive and signals its ambition to redefine digital engagement through an African lens.
