The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old woman, Nafisat Lateef, for allegedly poisoning a three-year-old boy in Omifon, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
Police authorities alleged that the suspect, who is the landlady of the victim’s mother, administered a liquid substance suspected to be poisonous to the child following a disagreement between both women.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that the incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2026.
According to him, the victim, identified as Abdulrasheed, began vomiting shortly after consuming the substance. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he received prompt medical attention.
“The act was allegedly carried out after a misunderstanding between the complainant and the suspect, who is the complainant’s landlady,” the police spokesperson stated.
He added that detectives swiftly launched an intelligence-led operation that led to the arrest of the suspect.
During the course of the investigation, police officers also recovered the liquid substance suspected to be poison.
Jimoh further disclosed that the suspect is currently in police custody and has made useful statements, noting that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact nature of the substance and the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The police assured the public that the matter would be thoroughly investigated and that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
