The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dissociated itself from media reports claiming that it is set to inaugurate a Southwest leadership structure, describing the information as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, the party clarified that it has neither appointed nor elected any chairman for the Southwest region, warning that individuals behind the reported inauguration are not recognised by the opposition party.

The clarification was conveyed by the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, who stressed that the party’s official communication channels remain unchanged and are coordinated exclusively through its publicity department and verified platforms.

“There have been reports in some sections of the media suggesting that the Southwest chairman of the ADC is scheduled for inauguration. This information did not emanate from the ADC and should be treated as fake,” the statement read.

Abdullahi further stated, “This is to inform the general public that the African Democratic Congress has not appointed any Southwest chairman. Furthermore, the ADC is not inaugurating any Southwest chairman at this time.”

He advised members of the public, party supporters, and stakeholders to exercise caution and disregard any claims or activities suggesting otherwise, emphasising that such actions lack the endorsement of the party’s national leadership.

Reiterating the party’s position, the ADC spokesman maintained that no individual currently holds the position of Southwest chairman within the party and urged those propagating contrary claims to desist immediately.

The development comes amid heightened political activities and realignments across Southwest Nigeria, with several parties working to consolidate their structures ahead of future electoral contests.
