The Police Service Commission (PSC), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has announced a two-week extension of the ongoing recruitment exercise for 50,000 police constables across the country.
The extension was disclosed in a statement signed by the Head of Protocol and Public Affairs of the Commission, Torty Njoku Kalu. According to the statement, the application portal, which opened on December 15, 2025, will now close on February 8, 2026.
The PSC explained that the decision followed the receipt of more than 400,000 applications nationwide and a comprehensive review of submissions, which revealed significant disparities in participation among states.
While states such as Adamawa, Benue and Kaduna recorded impressive numbers of applicants, others – including Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi and Anambra – posted comparatively low figures.
The Commission noted that the extension is intended to promote equitable representation of all states in the recruitment process, in line with federal character principles and best practices in public service recruitment.
Eligible Nigerians, particularly those from states with low application numbers, were urged to take advantage of the extension by applying through the official recruitment portal at npfapplication.psc.gov.ng.
The PSC also appealed to state governments, local government councils, socio-cultural organisations, religious institutions, community leaders and other relevant stakeholders to intensify mobilisation and sensitisation efforts within their jurisdictions before the new deadline.
Reaffirming their position, the PSC and the Nigeria Police Force stressed their commitment to a recruitment process that is fair, transparent and credible, assuring applicants that merit and due process will guide all stages of the exercise.
