The Lagos State Police Command on Friday arraigned a 25-year-old man, Christopher Monday, before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court over the alleged sexual assault of his neighbour’s four-year-old daughter.

The defendant, who resides at No. 13 Surulere Street in the Dopemu area of Agege, is standing trial on a one-count charge of sexual assault. He pleaded not guilty to the allegation when the charge was read to him.

According to the prosecution, led by an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Adegoke Ademigbuji, the alleged offence occurred on October 17, 2025, at No. 8 Surulere Street, Dopemu, Agege. The prosecutor told the court that the defendant allegedly lured the minor into his room and unlawfully touched her.

Ademigbuji further informed the court that the child later reported the incident to her mother, prompting a complaint to the police and the subsequent arrest of the defendant.

The offence, the prosecutor said, contravenes Section 263 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

In her ruling on bail, Chief Magistrate M. F. Onamusi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million, with two sureties in like sum. The court stipulated that the sureties must be responsible citizens with verifiable addresses within the court’s jurisdiction.

The case was adjourned until January 30 for mention.
