The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced December 13, 2025, as the date for its governorship primary election in Osun State. The disclosure was made by the state chairman of the party, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, in a statement released on Friday.
Odeyemi expressed confidence in the party’s preparedness to conduct a transparent and peaceful primary, adding that NNPP is strategically positioning itself to take over the mantle of leadership from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2026.
According to him, internal crises rocking the PDP and divisions within the All Progressives Congress (APC) have created a political opening for NNPP to emerge as a formidable force ahead of the next year’s polls.
“NNPP is the new bride in Osun State. We are reaping from the ongoing confusion in the PDP and the disunity in the APC, especially over alleged plans to impose a candidate. The people of Osun are yearning for credible leadership, and our party represents that hope,” Odeyemi declared.
The chairman revealed that four aspirants, including a former gubernatorial candidate, have so far indicated interest in contesting for the party’s ticket, while more aspirants continue to express willingness to join the race.
“As we speak, not fewer than four aspirants have shown interest, and several others are still consulting. The 2026 governorship election will be a different ball game in Osun. We are quietly building our base, and the feedback from the grassroots shows that the people are ready to support whoever emerges as our flagbearer,” Odeyemi said.
He urged party members across the state to intensify efforts in mobilizing support and sensitizing the electorate on NNPP’s developmental agenda, which he said is aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the people and repositioning Osun for prosperity.
“With unity, focus, and strategic planning, NNPP will spring surprises in 2026. Our mission is to take Osun to greater heights among the comity of states,” he affirmed.
