The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Garuba Aminu, for alleged unlawful possession of a suspected human body part in the Commercial Oroki area of Oyo State.

According to the police, Aminu was apprehended on Friday, February 20, 2026, at about 8:00 a.m., after residents noticed his suspicious movements while he was disguised as a scavenger in the area.

Vigilant members of the community reportedly intercepted the suspect and subjected him to a search. During the process, a cut lower right leg suspected to be human was discovered inside a large sack containing waste plastic bottles in his possession.

Upon receiving the report, a joint patrol team of the police, working in collaboration with other security agencies, swiftly moved to the scene. Officers met an angry mob that had gathered with the intention of lynching the suspect.

The police intervened promptly, dispersed the crowd, and rescued the suspect from imminent harm. The suspected human part was recovered as an exhibit and secured for forensic examination and further investigative procedures.

The suspect has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a discreet and thorough investigation aimed at unraveling the circumstances surrounding the incident and determining the origin of the recovered body part.

The command commended members of the public whose vigilance and timely action led to the arrest, urging residents to remain security-conscious and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.

It also cautioned against mob action, stressing that taking the law into one’s hands is unlawful and capable of obstructing justice.
